Definition

Pentacyclisches Triterpen (Triterpensapogenin) mit einer Carboxylgruppe, das nahezu unlöslich in Wasser, jedoch gut löslich in Methanol ist.

Vorkommen

Oleanolsäure ist als Naturstoff in einer Vielzahl von Pflanzen enthalten so in: Salbei (Salvia officinalis), Taigawurzel (Eleuterococcus erthraea), im  Gemeinem Efeu (Hedera helix), in Zuckerrüben (Beta vulgaris), Ginseng (Panax ginseng), Breitwegerich (Plantago major), Syzygium cumini, Pistazien (Pistazia vera), Olivenblättern (Olea europaea) u.a. 

Wirkungen

Oleanolsäure ist schwach zytotoxisch, weist ein antioxydatives, antiproliferatives Potenzial auf. Experimentell wurde eine Hemmung von TNF-alpha sowie IL-1beta nachgewiesen. Klinische Anwendungen erweisen sich als erfolgreich in der Behandlung des atopischen Ekzems. Verschiedene Derivate der Oleanolsäure (z.B. Bardoxolon) wirken deutlich stärker antiproliferativ und proapoptotisch (versch. Derivate sind in klinischer Überprüfung).

Anwendungsgebiet/Verwendung

Peroral applizierte Oleanolsäure wird in China und Japan bei Lebererkrankungen verwendet. Weiterhin bei Hyperlipidämie und bei nichtlymphatischer Leukämie.

Extern: Oleanolhaltige Cremes sind  zum Schutz vor Hautkrebs im Handel. Experimentell: Atopiches Ekzem.
