Definition

Farnesol  (Name abgeleitet von der Akazienart Acacia farnesiana), ein aliphatischer Sesquiterpenalkohol (von Farnesylphosphat) ist ein farbloses, intensiv nach Maiglöckchen riechender Duftstoff. Farnesol wirkt antibakteriell (hemmt die Bildung von Staphylokokken- und Streptokokken-Biofilmen). Kontaktsensibilisierungen sind beschrieben. Die Sensibilisierungsrate ist nicht eindeutig geklärt (s.u. Duftstoffe).
