Definition

Monoethanolamin, auch 2-Aminoethanol genannt, ist eine chemische Verbindung aus der Gruppe der Alkohole/Amine. Der Aminalkohol wird in  Kühlschmierstoffen, als Emulgator für Textilhilfsmittel, in Druckfarben auf Wasserbasis, in kosmetischen Cremes und Emulsionen und  in Haarfärbemitteln verwendet.

Monoethanolamin besitzt eine irritative Wirkung auf Haut und Schleimhäute. Die irritative Wirkung der Substanz ist offenbar ein Kofaktor, der zusammen mit anderen, die Hautbarriere schädigenden Faktoren bei häufigem und größerflächigem Kontakt (insbesondere in bestimmten Metallberufen, auch beim Haarfärben oder bei Flächenreinigungen) zu Sensibilisierungen führen kann. Die Sensibilisierungsrate liegt in exponierten Kollektiven bei etwa 3,8 %.

Zudem gibt es Hinweise für die Auslösung eines allergische Asthma bronchiale z.B. bei Verwendung von Haarpflegemitteln. Dies gilt auch für Reinigungspersonal die  Monoethanolamin-Flächenreinigungsmitteln nutzten.

Vorkommen

Die nachfolgend aufgeführten MEA-Verbindungen werden in kosmetischen Präparaten in unterschiedlichen Indikationen verwendet: 

  • Dimethyl MEA (INCI). Funktion: puffernd
  • Ethanolamine glycerophosphat (INCI). Funktion: hautpflegend
  • Isostearamide MEA (INCI). Isooctadecanamid, N-(2-Hydroxyethyl)-. Funktion: antistatisch, viskositätsregelnd, schaumvermindernd, Tensid
  • MEA-laureth sulfate (INCI). Funktion, Tensid, reinigend
  • Mea-lauryl sulfate (INCI). (2-Hydroxyethyl)ammoniumdodecylsulfat. Funktion, Tensid, reinigend
  • MEA o-phenylphenate (INCI). (1,1´-Biphenyl)-2-ol, Verbindung mit 2-Aminoethanol. Funktion: Konservierungsstoff
  • Ricinoleamide mea (INCI). Funktion: antistatische, vikositätsregelnd, schaumverstärkend
  • Stearamidoethyl ethanolamine (INCI). Funktion. antistatisch, emulgierend
  • Stearamidoethyl ethanolamine phosphate (INCI). Funktion. antistatisch
